Weird Science: Drexel loses to D-II University of the Sciences - SportingNews.com

There are bad losses, then there is what happened to Drexel on Thursday night. The Dragons didn't just suffer their fifth loss of the season, they did it losing 54-52 to the University of the Sciences.

Yes. The University of the Sciences.

The Philadelphia pharmaceutical college has an undergraduate enrollment of just under 2,000 students and competes in the Division II Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The Devils entered Thursday night's game with a 5-2 record, with wins coming against schools like the University of the District of Columbia., Lincoln College (Pa.) and Pittsburgh-Johnston.

Eight of the Devils' 14 players are majoring in Pharmaceutical & Healthcare Business.

Despite the fact that the 2014-15 Drexel squad is tone of the weaker team head coach Bruiser Flint has fielded in the past few years, there really isn't any reason for them to lose to a Division II school, even if they did enter the game with a 2-4 record.

Junior guard Damion Lee who entered the game averaging 21 points per game, is one of the better players in the Atlantic-10. But clearly, he was no match for Garret Kerr, who led all scorers with 27 points while grabbing 10 rebounds.. It should be pointed out that Kerr was a 2014 Division III All-American and averages 24.4 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.

Following the game, USciences' head coach Dave Pauley dropped this gem during the press conference.

'There are two plays in basketball--Romeo & Juliet, and Give Garret Kerr the Ball.' --Dave Pauley

It should also be pointed out that USciences has players named T-John Casiello, along with brothers Flo and Sho Da-Silva.

The loss snaps the Dragons' two-game win streak, in which they beat actual Division I opponents Cornell and Southern Mississippi.

Drexel is now the first Division I team to lose a regular season game to a non-Division I team this year.
