SPOKANE, Wash. - A Spokane high school is bringing elementary kids into the high school classroom for a unique science experience.
The goal is to introduce students to science early. The unit is focused on how plants grow but the goal is to make children feel like scientists.
Michael Peasley, 11, knows he wants to be a scientist. He never guessed he would get his start inside of North Central High School.
'I guess it's because we are smaller than these other kids and we kind of look up to them,' said Peasley.
The sixth graders from Grant Elementary are part of a new program called, The Power of the Seed. Each day, a new group throws on their lab coats to learn more about plants. They even get to use specialized tools to extract DNA and protein.

The Director of Institute of Science and Technology, Randy James, jump started the program. He said he wants kids to get a head start on science.
'Planting seeds in little kids minds early that they're capable in science and there's marvels to still be discovered in science,' said James.
Staff plan on making this a permanent program. They hope to add seventh and eighth graders next year.
