NASA has created an album of sounds on Soundcloud, including rocket launches, recordings from space shuttle missions and even a song about water on the moon.

All the NASA-themed smartphone notifications you could ever want have been compiled in one place: NASA has launched an album on Soundcloud of some of its most famous audio clips from over the years.

Released last week, the account contains over 60 clips in MP3 format from the NASA sound archives -- also available on the NASA website in the m4r format for iPhone ringtones. These include the sounds of shuttle launches; recordings of the solar system; and clips of famous quotes from both JFK and NASA astronauts.

What you do with those space sounds is up to you, whether you sample them for your own music, use them as notification sounds on your PC or smartphone, or some other magnificent purpose (we think a doorbell that announces 'The eagle has landed' would be genius) -- but since they're the work of the US government, they're all completely in the public domain.

And, of course, more are on the way. You can check out a sample of our favourites below, or visit the NASA Soundcloud account to browse the files for yourself.
