NASA will soon have a new tool for tracking hurricanes and tropical storms from space.
It will be the first instrument specifically created to watch earth from the International Space Station - according to NASA.
Scientists are calling it the ISS RapidScat. It's a wind-watching scatterometer.
It's expected to launch within the next few weeks aboard a Spacex Dragon rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida.
What's even more interesting about this device is that it will be totally assembled and installed in space robotically.
The equipment will be able to record the direction and speed of ocean surface winds.
The idea is to track how the planet is changing.
The information that comes out of the RapidScat will be shared with the institutions and organizations that work to understand and protect the planet.
