Bubbles? Tin foil boats? Science?

Oh heck, yes.

Exclamations could be heard in McCormack Hall during the 4-H Science, Engineering and Technology Youth Science Experiments Friday afternoon during the third day of the Solano County Fair.

Children of various ages stopped by during the three-hour event to learn about various science experiments; some even got to do a little hands-on science.

'It's a lot of little science (projects),' said Samantha Moore, while she watched her two sons, Gregory Moore, 8, of Dixon and his brother Zachary, 10, attempt to blow a bubbles within another bubble.

Samantha Moore said that Zachary is at the fair to show off the two pigs and two rabbits he raised as a part of the 4-H program.

Samantha Moore also said that her family is staying for the duration of the fair, while Zachary participates in showing his animals, which allows the boys to 'roam the fair.'

This wasn't the first time the Moore children had attempted this science experiment. They had tried the previous day.

'I told them they could stop by and do one experiment today,' said Moore laughing, as sat at a nearby table watching science in action.

Moore said that at home all she hears about is science.

'(Science) is fun over the other stuff,' said Zachary Moore. 'Showing animals (in a program like 4-H) is like science.'

Samantha Moore said that Gregory is too young to raise animals but next year he might be able to.

Before attempting to blow a bubble into another bubble, Gregory Moore tried his hand at building a tin foil boat, which should float while holding heaving objects, like marbles.

He had some success.

'He wanted to come back and try again making a boat,' she said with a smile.

While both boys rested from all their experimenting, Samantha Moore said Gregory has his mind set on engineering, especially working with wheels.

'He wants to develop a flying car,' she said smiling.

Gregory reflected on his future career goal of creating a flying car.

'We could fly into our front yard,' he said.

The Solano County Fair continues until Sunday. Gates open Saturday and Sunday at noon. The 4-H Science, Engineering and Technology Youth Science Experiments will return for both days from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in McCormack Hall.
